Room 11 Camp Recounts 2011
Room 11 went to camp at Marsden Bay in Week 6 (7-10 March) and these are a few of our awesome camp recounts!
WATERSLIDE BY JORDY
Aaargh! I screamed as I zoomed down the long slippery snake on my stomach, finally reaching the end. I'm talking about the waterside.
It seemed like every single kid at camp lined up excitedly to go down the longest fastest waterside I've ever seen.
I waited anxiously in line, my knees knocking, as dangerously brave kids zoomed down, splashing soapy water into my eyes as they whizzed past. Some were so brave that they went down in two's and three's, joining arms and legs. Finally it was my turn. Mrs Gunson squirted soap all over me and I lowered myself onto the slide, ready to race off. 1,2,3, GO!!! I flew down screaming and splashed soapy water all over the yellow matted hill and all the way to the black. What an experience.
Once I had finished I got right back up, ready to do it again and again and again. That was the best experience of CAMP 2011!
FLYING FOXBY JUSTINEI was waiting, waiting for the flying fox. The line was getting smaller and smaller. Soon I was The only one left. Oh no. Someone's coming with an orange harness. My size.
I was up on the tower. Waiting again. There are two other people on the platform with me. Okay, make that one. The buzzing hum fills my ears. I look down. Bad idea, my eyes fall to the pole that supports the wire. It wobbles and shakes before my eyes. "Next" calls John. Oh no, oh no. What if… Stop thinking negatives. "Okay I'm just going to attach this harness to you. You will need to step forward so I can clip you to the wire. Okay, you can go now." I step nervously up to the edge then, finding my confidence leap off the platform. Wow. This is weird but cool.
Okay that was really cool, I'm glad I tried it. I'm definitely going on that again.
ARCHERYBY AARONI pick up the bow with steady hands and position the arrow on the bow. I put two fingers on the string and pull it back halfway. I let it go. The arrow flies about a metre before it takes a sharp turn left and plummets into the ground.
Attempt number two. I only had the string pulled back half way last time, it needs to be pulled back completely. I put the arrow on the bow, draw back the string fully and release. WHAP!!! My arrow slams into the black ring on the outside of the target.
My third attempt, I know exactly what to do now. I pick up the bow, position the arrow and draw back the string with two fingers. I let it go and WHAP!!! Another black. Yes! I've got this all figured out.
