Lunchtime Soccer

03/06/09

On Friday 29th of May we played Rm5 in soccer.

Three of our main players were sick. In the first half Cam played as goalie and he only touched the ball once, because our team was so good.

By half time we were winning 2-0. Then we took the game victoriously with a 4-0 win!!

And today we are playing Rm10.

KIS A grade boys hockey

29-06-09

So far in the season we have had about seven games. We lost them all but that all finished last Friday when we played Kerikeri A mixed. There was much anticipation for the game. We were on water turf two and we had possession of the ball. We had a brilliant half having no goals going in either side. The KIS goalie only touched the ball once in the first half. The half time whistle blew and we got a motivation from Mrs T. In the last five minutes we managed to get one passed the Kerikeri goalie. The end score was 1-0 to KIS.

Netball

27-7-09

The team was site ready for our first game against Nikau C on the 24th. Our team was strong one because most of us had played at school and or on Saturday. The teams contain 3boys, 3girls, 3year7, 3year and three from something of the team chose. The first half of the game was great because we had a two – one lead. Going in to the seconded half we made a couple substructions. In the end we had a three all draw. But today we are having a rematch and we’re going to be victorious.

Goal Shooting Relay

10-08-09

On the 10th of August, we started the goal-shooting relay. It was rooms 6, 7, 8 and 9. Room 8 came first and our class, room 7 came second. We gave it all but it just wasn’t good enough. It was horrible that room 8 bet us, but we will come out on top playing all the other classes. GO ROOM 7!

School Cross country.

18-9-09

On the 25th of August, it was a very exciting day. First of all, it was the competitive school cross country, and secondly it was Mrs Tavinors birthday. First up in the cross country were the year 7 girls. The winner of that race was Katrina from room 6. Next up was the year 7 boys. The winner of that race was Josh from room 8. Then the mighty year 8 girls came up to the start line and BANG! The winner of that race was Bridget from room 15. Last but not least, the year 8 boys came up. The winner of that race was Cam from room 7. WOW! We were all exhausted from running so fast. Mrs Grant was giving out spot prizes to some random people and gave them picnic bars. The following week the top 10 from each section went over to the W.P.S.S.A. and competed against other Whangarei schools.

Syndicate Hockey

18-9-09

Each syndicate has a year 8 team and a year 7 team,  that had half boys and half girls in each.  The year 8’s from Matai first game was against Nikau and we won 8-0.  The year 7’s from Matai played Kowhai and won 3-0. So far the Matai year 8’s have won all their games and are playing the last one tomorrow, and the year 7’s won all and drew 1.  So fingers crossed for Matai!

Intensives/pacific island tour

20-10-09

On Wednesday 28th, Thursday 29th and Friday 30th we have intensives. We have activities from chocolate lovers with Mrs Tebutt to sailing with Mr Brown. 80 other students who won’t be doing intensives will be going on a pacific island tour to either Vanuatu or Samoa. People going to Vanuatu leave on the 24th of October and have to be at the school at 2:00 in the morning! Mr Epskamp, Mrs Hedley, Papanui, Miss Nelly and Mrs Drake are the five lucky teachers going with the 39 kids to Vanuatu. By the time intensives finish and by the time all of the pacific island people are back from their trip it will be back to hard work for all of us!

Champions

Room 7 made it into the championship finals of basketball against room 15. It was really frustrating. Near the end it was 5-5 but then we came back with another goal and won the game 6-5. Kowhai won the plate final and the runner up.

We also were champions in our interclass relays. It was an 8x 100 race. The teams had to have 2 from each year and gender. To qualify in the top race you had to race the other classes in your syndicate. The shield from this just adds to our collection.
