Ludicrous Lunchtime Sports11-5-09
Room 8 has started off lunchtime sports with a bang, with tug-o-war being the first chance for Room 8 to take the lead. But of more recent sports, Matai has done extremely well in Cricket. With both boys teams winning all their games, and the girls winning all but 1, and having 1 round of batting to go. With Matai's excellent skills, we hope we have taken the lead.

Ancient Civilisations26-05-09
This term we are doing a study on ancient civilisations, e.g Middle Ages, Greeks, Romans etc. I (being Jordan) am studying the Middle Ages. So far we have had to create a menu- in the Middle Ages they ate something called a caudle ferry, which was sweetened wine thickened with eggs for dessert. I now have to make a medieval house.Imagine mud walls and oiled animal skin windows! I (being Austyn) am studying ancient Greece. If you wanted to travel back in time and go to Greece I would suggest get taste for watered wine!

Room 8 Extensions25/08/09
You would not believe how many extensions the people of room 8 are involved in. I alone (Jordan) have 7! And Austyn has 4. John has so many he's hardly ever in class! Extensions are extra curriculum activities that you apply for at the start of the year. Some of the extensions include: Spanish, science, mask and film. And of course there is also Day Zero.

Matai has been in involved in a Pasifika art rotation, to support the school wide study of Pasifika. There are four different activities that we are doing for Pasifika art, each with a different teacher. Miss Tonks is doing Pasificka dance- the sasa and slap dance, Mrs Hedley is doing Michael Tuffery skateboard designs, Mrs Tavinor is doing masks, and Mrs Arms is doing Tivivae patterns. We are nearly finished our art rotation having finished all but one lesson in dance.

This week many brave (crazy) students have got up on stage and made a fool of themselves while entertaining at the same time. This is known as air guitar. Students and teachers alike have swarmed to watch and compete in this ridiculous event. Twelve of the contestants have gone through to the finals, which will be held at the Twilight Gala.

Zoo Trip 24/11/09
On the 17th of November Rm 8 disembarked on eventful and difficult journey through the ludicrous labyrinth of Auckland city. Our destination- Auckland Zoo (duh duh dum). Once everyone had arrived and had something to eat we all went off to observe all the animals. After an 1 1/2 hours we all found our way back to the classrooms to have lunch. We then went into a John's class, he showed us a slide show about deforestation and the impact on the animals. After he had talked he showed us all his animals, he had cotten topped tamarins, a blue tonged lizard, and he also had the fur of a red panda, lion, and the skin of a snake (all died of natural causes). We had an extra hour to look at the enclosures we hadn't see. At 1:50 we all met up at the entrance and them started the long journey back home.
