Room 4's Fantastic Camp

26/5/09

Our camp was on the 10th to the 13th of March

For Room 4"s camp we went to The Farm in Whangaruru.

We had 4 teams The Inferno's, T'N'T's,  The Warriors and the other team. When we got there the Warriors had the hardest challenge in the competition. They had The Kayaking Challenge!! The Infernos had horse riding, the T'N'T's had motorbikes. The Warriors were to Kayak around the Farm and because it was low tide they got down in the mud! it took them two hours to finish. The Infernos had to ride casper, possum and rusty the horses but Johnny was having a break so we didn't get to ride him.  That night we had chicken, salad and roast potatoes. We were split into 2 groups and were taught how to play werewolf.

The next day The Warriors had motorbikes in the morning. The boys started on the 100cc but the girls started on the 50cc. the infernos had the raft challenge to do that day. We put the rings on the bottom of our 3x3 sized raft. it took the infernos a long time to get to the other side but when they  got there they shot straight back. we had sandwiches for lunch that day then we went to our next rotation. the infernos had to do the kayak challenge in low tide. it was all good until they got to the mud. they were trudging in the mud. us children got stuck in a circle and we got bored so we had a mud fight. when they got to the water tank they all left for the farm again. we had dinner then we went on the Burma trail. all of the girls were screaming when the parents jumped out of there hiding places.

The next day we had breakfast then we went to our next rotation. the infernos had motor bikes. they learned what components it had then we went to the riding part. everyone had fun driving the bikes. when we got back as usual everyone played the normal games then we had lunch the too animal survival. we the herbivores hid then the carnivores came and attacked . when the game finished we went to the water slide then back to the farm. the last day we had the competitions but the infernos won out of the score board. when everyone got ready we all left to go back to school.

OUR STUDENT TEACHER

Our student teacher was Miss Esveld, she ws introduced to our class on the 18th of May 2009. Miss Esveld was very enthusiastic(but it didn't last for long). Miss Esveld used to be a student here a kamo intermediate, and she was a part of the Hemi Semi's.

She was fun, sporty, awesome, cool, and took us out for games, she also helped the staff beat room 14 in Soccer.

On the last day she was there she bought us some chips for our shared lunch. I must say the hot chips DID NOT last!.

'Money System'

04/08/09

Room 4 'Money System"

Room 4 has started a new money system in which you get paid fake money for doing your homework, finishing work and following instructions. Every day that you come to school you earn $10. Everyone in the class has a Balance Sheet which keeps track of their earnings and losses. Each day we change banker who gives people their money or takes it away from them. They are in charge of the money as well. Every 2 weeks we have an auction, where we bid for somethings like: Free Period, Teacher for a day, DVD for you and a friend, and games for the class. We also get money if we are playing for our class in the lunch time sports, if we win we get another $50.

"Room's 4 & 2 Auckland Trip"

18th August 2009

On the 14th of August room's 2 & 4 went to the Auckland Museum, Tala Pasifika.
We were split in to two groups. One group had to find, a pump drill with a shell disc, a whales tooth, a bow and tattooing instruments in the museum. The other group learnt how to use a pump drill and learnt a Pasifika song with actions. We got to look at a whales tooth and a chiefs red bone necklace. After our session we went upstairs into the giant sphere. We wore a lava lava during our activities. We learnt how to grind  a coconut, how to weave using afa or senit, how to tie a knot without a knot and learnt about their musical instruments they made, with lizard skin. We left the museum at 1 o'clock and ate on the bus. It was 4 hours traveling for 1 hour fun.

*Heritage Park*

*Class Trip To Heritage Park*

On the 3rd of November room 4 went to Heritage Park. We are currently studying our ancestors and how they lived when they were young. First off we met Mr Davidson and Mrs Lawlor. When then looked at a timeline from the early 1800's to now. We saw all types of different items like, an old radio, telephones, billy's and lots more. Mr Davidson wrote a play of his ancestors arriving in New Zealand. Krystal, Anna-Liese, Curtis, Jake, David and Wesley took part by reading out a segment that Mr Davidson had kindly wrote.

We then split into 2 groups.Half of us went with Mr Davidson and the other with Mrs Lawlor up to the museum. My group went to see the old school on the property with Mr Davidson. He told us some of his childhood stories and what it was like for him at school. He showed us the punishment that he used to get. He also gave us a test. It was the same one that the children had to take to get into secondary school years and years ago. We weren't allowed to use a pen and paper either, we had to do it mentally. There was only 12 questions but they were very difficult.

When we finished we went to see Mrs Lawlor in the museum, were we created a timeline of all the olden day toys that they used to play with. It consisted of poi's, dolls, a kaleidoscope, marbles, knuckle bones, buzzy bee, chatter rings, lego, pick up sticks and a few more. It was really fascinating to see how they toys they had are different from the toys we play with today.

*Suspense Story*

Lately Room 4 has been writing suspense stories. We have found out that to create suspense in a story you need to have short sentences to create the atmosphere and you should describe the tension between the group or pair.

*Spelling test*
Room 4 had the compulsory "Peters Spelling Test" on Tuesday. We congratulate Azalia and Hayley for getting 100 out of 100 and having a 15year+ spelling age.

*Orientation*
Next month the year 8"s are going to their new high school and the primary school year 6's are coming here are going to be introduced to their new teachers and other class members. Great teachers and new year 8 role models will be there leading the way.

Sean's favourite part of the year was our camp at The Farm in Whangaruru and intensives. I love lunchtimes and home time. Na just jokes. I love the specialist classes.
