HAYLEY CLARK
HAYLEY - Resident
Artist
By Alana C (Nikau KidzBiz Journalist 2006)
Some people may ask, “What exactly does Hayley do at this school?”
I simply answer, “Everything,” because it’s true. I even heard that once
she did a dance extension class in the early days of her teaching
experience at Kamo Intermediate. That’s crazy!!!!!
But for now, she organizing the Bernina Fashion Awards, where people
from the north strut down the catwalk to show off their creations and
strike a pose, hoping for a good response from the audience and the
judges. Some of the sections are masquerade, fantasy and dance. If you
were there, you would have seen a series of colourful hand painted
screens which formed the back drop of the stage. They took her forever
but that just shows you how much effort she puts into her art, and
everything she does. She was organizing the Bernina Fashion Awards
while, at the same time, teaching Japanese, a number of art extension
classes, and Art@KIS, her after school- art class.
But back to the Bernina Fashion Awards . . . a huge number of students
entered through the school, with either Mrs Nicholson or Hayley.
The things you find in Hayley’s room, from fluff to the most random
things, look as if they’ve been launched to earth from outer space. The
cause of this, I think, is that Hayley likes to experiment and the
things that she thinks might come in handy at some time or an another,
she will keep, just in case. It’s one of my favourite rooms in the
school!!!!

XTREME JAPANESE

Loosely based on the Japanese Folktale "KAGUYAHIME" this production was created for the Northland Amateur Film-Makers Festival (N.A.F.F Awards).
Ssshhhhh SECRET SQUIRRELS
This extension is … well … secret! Information is on a need to know basis and only those chosen few will find out what it is all about.
***CREATIVE ARTS COMMENTARIES***
JAPANESE……
OHAYOO GOZAIMASU! - KONNICHIWA! - KOMBANWA!
At the start of the year I thought that Japanese would be just like class work. Except your learning Japanese… But I was wrong. Japanese is very fun and you get heaps of lollies. You also get to make SUSHI. It was yum. I had some wasabi with it. And we had teriyaki chicken. YUM!
I hope we go for a trip soon…..

WHANGAREI TALL PUPPET PARADE
In 2004, Hayley and some students made a puppet for the "Whangarei Tall Puppet Parade". K.I.S.S the TANIWHA came into being and is now a awesome school mascot. Not really a TALL puppet , but a LONG puppet, she is 9 metres long and could fit 6 kids underneath her body. Hayley and a few chosen children used brown paper, paper pulp, paper mache, paint and glitter to create her. On the day of the parade 25 students were involved in from our school (with a couple of friends from Canada) this was a great effort by all and hopefully an enjoyable experience.

After School Art Classes
Hayley also runs an after school art class on Tuesdays and Thursdays called Art@KIS. As well as being taught different art styles and techniques they also learn a little about art history. They are taught techniques using different medium such as pastels, dyes, indian ink, acrylic paint and plastic paint. Some of the artist they have focused on are Van Gogh, Klimt and Cezanne
CREATIVE ARTS
By Coco L (KidzBiz Journalists 2005)
Almost any day of the week you’re sure to find the creative arts teams busy at work. Whether it’s Marvellous Masks, Screen Printing or many others, there’s always some form of creation taking form in the Art Extension Room.
With 8 different extensions to run, after school activities and holiday programmes, there’s always something going on in Hayley Clark, our artist-in-residence’s, life. I myself have also taken part in the crazy cushions and creative embroidery and I can certainly say they’ve got a lot to offer. Some of the teams even get to enter the Bernina Fashion Awards with their funky masks and groovy wearable arts.
I highly recommend these awesome extensions to anyone who wants to have some fun and isn’t afraid of some hard work.

Hayley's Groups have also taken part in Whangarei's "Tall Puppet Parade" and this year some of her helpers (mostly from Rooms 2 & 22) help create our own Tall Puppet (more a long puppet) KISS The Taniwha see pictures below.
