TABLOID SPORTS SESSIONS

At the start of the year, we usually have a fun couple of session doing “Tabloid Sports”. All the classes are split in half and each team rotates around the various Tabloids.
The tabloid sports are just fun games that you go out and enjoy like;
The Chicken Run, Longball, Scatterball, Hares and Hounds, Capture the Rugby Ball, Dodgeball, the Obstacle Course and many others (some you end up soaked, which is good in the really humid and hot weather we’ve been having.

Well Done Ladies.
HOCKEY RESULTS THIS WEEKS
Monday 29th June 2009
This week was a great week for the Kamo Intermediate teams with all 3 teams winning. The KIS A-Grade Girls team beat Bream Bay Girls A 4 - 1, while the KIS B-Grade Girls won against Maunu B Girls 6-0.
But the big win of the week was Mrs Tavinor's KIS Boys team beating Kerikeri Boys by a huge 1-0 (considering the majority of the team has never played before. Well Done to all our teams, Congratulations Boys and Awesome Job Coaches!!!
McKINLEY & SHEPHERD CUP TOURNAMENTS
Sunday 21st June 2009
This annual tournament is for the JMC A and B Grade teams competing in the local competition. Last year Ruatangata took out both the Girls (Shepherd Cup) and the boys (McKinley Cup) competitions last year.
The K.I.S Boys 1st XI competed and had a great tournament, improving with each game. They did lose to eventual winners Mangapai, but had 2 great drawn games, including one with current competition leaders Ruatangata 2-2. Well Done Boys and great caching Mrs Tavinor.
The K.I.S Girls 1st XI also did very well, also improving as the day worn on. They did lose to Ruatangata A in the qualifying rounds, but won the rest of their games to book a spot in the Semi-Finals against Springfield (a 2 nil win).
Once again K.I.S met Ruatangata this time for the Cup Final. In a very stressful game (mostly for coach Michelsen) the Girls came thru to win 2-0. Congratulations to the new holders of the Shepherd Cup, Kamo Intermediate!

PAIHIA FUN RUN - 2009
Sunday 7th June 2009
Every year, Mr Epskamp organises a group to enter the "Paihia Fun Run". There were 45 students and a few teachers (Mr Nic, Mr Brown and Papanui) and most had to get up before 7am to catch the bus by 7.30am.
We had a short stop at the Kawakawa Toilets before arriving at the start of the Fun Run course (at the Village Green).
There was a great crowd and lots of excitement at the start line. There were 2 distances (8km run and 6km walk), a number of sections (The runners, the fast walkers, the strollers with babies and the fun walkers).
There was a certificate, a drink (powerade) and lots of prizes to giveaway at the end. All in all it was a really FUN day. Congratulations to Matt in Room 3 and Sophie in Room 10 for being the first K.I.S boy and girl across the finish.
WINTER SPORTS DAY
- Friday 22nd May 2009 -
"Lots of kids, lots of sports and a whole heap of fun!!!"
There was a nervous wait to see what the weather gods would bring us for Friday, but luckily they smiled on us and it was a lovely balmy day for the 2009 version of the Winter Sports Day.
Netball, Rugby, Rugby League, Ripper Rugby, Soccer, Hockey, Basketball and Table Tennis were the activities the students got to pick from. Intermediate schools from around Whangarei turned up to participate, Whangarei Intermediate, Pompallier College, Tikipunga High, Otangarei, Manaia View, Tauraroa, Parua Bay, Mangakahia, Matarau and Ngunguru.
Once again we have to give a lot of thanks to all the parent helpers, volunteers, teachers and students for a great day.

A-GRADE GIRLS HOCKEY
- Thursday 14th May 2009 -
Ruatangata vs Kamo Intermediate 1st XI
This was always going to be the match of the round. Last years JMC
A-Grade Champions Ruatangata against our school. The score at halftime
was 1 - 0 to Ruatangata thanks to a goal from Ella-Rose. But after a
stern talking to and a bag of lollies to get them going Kamo
Intermediate came back to win 3 - 1 with goals to Claudia, Rebecca and
the Captain, Bridget. Great game to both sides and a nice win Kamo!!!
K.I.S HOCKEY COMPETITION TEAMS

LUNCHTIME SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES - 2009Latest Event: SYNDICATE RUGBY
LUNCHTIME SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
What is the Lunchtime Sports Championship Series?
The "Lunchtime Sports" is a inter-class and syndicate sports competition taking place during lunchtimes during the school year.
Why do the Lunchtime Sports Series?
To foster teamwork, get the students competitive juices flowing and get them active during lunchtimes. It's also a lot of FUN!
What Sports do you compete in?
Our first
competition is Tug'O' War. Other contested events are Scatterball,
Syndicate Cricket, Indoor Bowls, Soccer, Inter-Syndicate Rugby,
Netball, Table Tennis, Hockey, T-Ball, Goal-Shooting Relay and Touch.
Sometimes because of weather and/or time constraints other sports are
added or dropped from the schedule.
What happens then?
Well
those who win are justifyable proud of their acheivement and to be
called World Champion is a cause to celebrate. Even the teachers get in
on the act, with the Champions in the various sports taking on the
K.I.S Staff to win the "Bone Of Contention" trophy. So check back
throughout the year to see who is Champion in each discipline. We
wonder "Who will be next?"

SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP - 2009
ROOM 2 vs ROOM 14
-Wednesday 10th June 2009-
The might of
Kowhai's Room 2 (Mrs Roberts) against The K.I.S Scatterball Champions
Room 14 (Mr Kini) from Tawa for the World supremacy in Soccer.
The Soccer Plate final was between Miss Tonk's Room 9 (Matai) and Mr
Palmers Nikau B. It was a very tight game and with lots of support from
Mr Palmer and Miss Tonks, but the team from Matai held on to their one
goal lead. Congratulations Room 9, awesome effort.
All the players in the final had a touch of the nerves as the World
Championship final got under way. An early goal to Room 14 put Room 2
on the back foot and Mr Kini's Class held the lead at Half-time 1-0.
But within 10 seconds of the restart, the Kowhai team scored, leveling
the game. The tension mounted and a lapse in concentration meant Room
14 went ahead to 2-1. There were some great skills shown and some
surprisingly good performances but in the end Kini's Krew scored before
the final whistle to wrap up the World Championship.
Well Done to both teams and Congratulations to the Soccer World Champions Room 14 of Tawa!!!

The Grand Final with Mrs Hudspith's Room 15 and Room 14 was worth the price of admission.
