On Saturday we played the curtain-raiser for the Black Sticks vs Argentina test against Orewa College. The next day we were playing the Tri-Series Pre-Season Hockey Tournament in Papatoetoe. That's a lot of hockey.
This is the 2nd year that Kamo Intermediate has taken part in the Tri-Series Pre-Season Tournament with Diocesan School for Girls and Southern (South Auckland) Hockey Club. We competed at the new hockey turf at the Southern Districts Sports Centre in Papatoetoe. They had some really nice facilities there.
The first game we had was against the 2010 Intermediate School girls to team, Diocesan. This year they are in a re-building phase as a lot of their best players have now moved on to High School. They had 2 players returning from last year and 12 new year-7 players. We had a good win, but we know they will be stronger by the time the AIMS Games comes around in August.
Our next game was straight after with Half a game against the Southern Mixed Team and the other Half against the Southern Boys Team. Now these were really tough, hard games and our girls did really well to step up after playing a whole game against Dio.
The Southern Mixed team scored first with some hard defense turning quickly into attack, but we managed to get a equalising goal later in the half. In the second half with a whole new Southern Boys team taking the field we did really well to draw against the boys as well.
We were really happy with the way we played and would like to thank the management, coaches, parents and teams of Diocesan and Southern, it was a great event. Afterwards we had to stop at Waiwera Hot Pools to ease those aching muscles and have some fun of course. WELL DONE GIRLS!!!
