CHRISTCHURCH!!!

We've all seen the pictures, the news reports and heard the radio. But we just can't imagine what it would be like to be in the middle of a crisis that big. And like everyone else in New Zealand and around the world we wondered "What can we do to help?"

When we heard that the best thing we could send to Christchurch other then our thought's and love was money, the students and staff jumped into action, "A MUFTI DAY" with all the proceeds going to a school in Christchurch.

Our Principal Mr Smith knew their Principal at Christchurch South, Mr Hastings and so we had the school we wanted to help. We also decided that everyone should pay $2 and we all had to dress in Red & Black (Canterbury colours).

The 558 students all paid up, all the staff made donations and we were proud to raise $1425 for Christchurch South Intermediate. The top class for donations was Nikau C who gave $351.80. The 2 top student collectors were Eden ($85), who was actually saving up for something else but instead donated it & Bradley ($100) who raided his savings. Both are also from Nikau C.

We hope every little bit helps, we are all thinking of you and it was the least we could do for everyone in Christchurch.

As well as the mufti day, students from Room 5 and their teacher Mr Brown teamed up with Joseph Kaptein & Zoe Dearlove to create a heart warming song for fellow students in quake-ravaged Christchurch.

They created a video montage of our students showing that we are thinking of them and we will support them anyway we can.

I am the Principal of Christchurch South Intermediate School and received a text today from a friend of our school who saw a newspaper article about the fantastic support Kamo Intermediate has shown for Christchurch. I was amazed when I checked out your website to see what you have all done! It brought a tear to my eye. It has been a particularly moving day for us in Christchurch today as we have felt the love and support of our wonderful nation during the 2 minutes silence at 12:51pm. What the students and staff of Kamo Intermediate School have done with your mufti day and fabulous recreation of our school logo using coins is just stunning. As word spreads of your generosity the students, staff and families associated with our school will be hugely uplifted by your support. Thank you so much. You are awesome (and you look great in red and black!)
