Our Stage Challenge Theme is "Protect The Longfin Eel"
We hope to increase awareness, understanding and appreciation for New Zealand's Longfin eel in order to help save it from extinction. Despite being a threatened native (endemic) species, the Longfin eels are still being targeted by commercial fishers for export. This is detrimental for the survival of the species, as the longfin eel only breeds once, at the end of their life.
We hope that through knowledge of the Longfin eels struggle for survival, people will petition against the commercial harvesting of them. To sign the petition go to http://www.forestandbird.org.nz and click on "Lifeline for Longfins "
