Ms DE BRUIN

Ms de Bruin is on study leave at the moment and so we have the multi-talented Mrs NICHOLSON taking Textile and Design for 2006. Welcome aboard Mrs Nic.

Sewing Star - Ms de Bruin will teach her students how to design a pattern which they will then paint the fabric for. When they have completed their sewing licence, they can sew their object together.

Ms de Bruin will be working out of the other half of the newly renovated technology block in the NEW Textile and Design Room (ex Soft materials).

MY NEW ROOM

“WOW! was my first reaction when I first walked in the room”, Miss De Bruin explained, “I *LOVED* the wood; the colour blue around the doors and on all the other little things that are around the place; the flexibility of the design has increased the amount of space to do so many more things which is great.” Miss De Bruin had initial fears that the mirror hanging over the demonstration table was going to fall on her head but says it would have to be her favourite part of the room because everyone can see what she is doing with her hands when she is demonstrating and also where she is around the room.

During the early stages of the planning which began in 2003 Miss De Bruin and Mrs Nisbet
visited a lot of schools in Auckland to gather as many great ideas as they could. After that they had to design and plan their favourite features into their rooms.

“But my room would definitely have to be the best,” said Miss De Bruin, “although Mrs. Nisbet’s room is really nice it would be a bit hard to do things like fabric painting around all the stoves!”

After many months the building was complete everyones reactions were similar. “The kids thought it was GREAT,” Miss De Bruin tells us, “ although they couldn’t figure out why the mirror was there.”

At the end of last year the renovations began and Miss De Bruin and Mrs Nisbet had to move to Room One they found it tough teaching in such a cramped space.
