Soccer Finals-INTENSE11-05-10Room 8 skyrocketed through the ranks of the soccer tournament. After an intense struggle of wits and determination, we edged past Nikau A by 1 point. The next game we breezed past Nikau C 4-0. Then came our hardest opponents so far- Room 16. Full to the brim of skill, speed and talent, they were just as determined to get to the top as we were. There were nail biting moments throughout the game, and we almost lost our composure. But we pulled something from somewhere and kept ourselves in the game. Following an intense penalty shootout, in which our goalkeeper pulled off a miracle and did a professional level save, to get us through to the GRAND FINAL.
We had a brief pep talk, and raced out onto the field to play a room full of attacking prowess-Room 5. With pace, agility, talent, and determination, they posed a formidable threat to our hopes. In the game there were lots of oohs and aahs, but no-one could make a breakthrough. It went on to a penalty shootout, but in the end we just couldn't perform the miracle we needed and Room 5 came out victors. The day wasn't a complete failure, however. Room 7 won the plate final for Matai...

Trivial Pursuit Night - 25th of June25-05-10
The three Pacific Island groups have started gearing up for their Overseas trips. The first group to go is the Vanuatu group, who are leaving just next term! The Fiji and Samoa groups are leaving during Intensives Week, in term 4. We are all very excited and have been very busy with fundraising.
On the 25th of June, we are having our MAJOR fundraiser- The Famous Trivial Pursuit Night. The night will go a bit like this- All the adults who have booked a table will be ushered into the hall by the slaves (that's us). There will be some entertainment, including live music (us again) until we eventually start the Trivial Pursuiting. After this is over, we will have a big auction of some stuff generously donated by various businesses in the Whangarei district. There will be a bar and other facilities available for use. Altogether it should be an awesome night!

Winter Sportz Day9-06-10On the 28th of May, the whole school geared up for an action-packed exhibition of speed, skill and Channel K. Thats right- Winter Sports Day.
My friend Daniel here, did soccer, and I played Rippa Rugby. It all started with a tedious wait on the school grounds and endless roll calling. Finally we loaded into the hot, humid transpiration units (aka busses). There was so little room that half of the passengers had to stand in the aisle! Fortunately, the cramped busses took only minutes to reach Kensington Park.
One of the greatest things was that there was only a brief 20 minute interval between games. Nobody was bored for long. because the games were so intense that your mind was entirely in it.
At the end of the day, pretty much everyone was tired, bruised, hurt, cramped, exhausted, sore, and annoyed that the busses were taking so long, but otherwise in good spirits.

FIFA World Cup 2010 (Kamo Int Version)21-06-10
The largest sporting event in the world has kicked off in South Africa - and, of course, at KIS.
While the All Whites continue to make history by holding the World Champions, Italy, to a 1-1 draw, we at KIS have our own version. And this is off to a flyer. Most teams have played two games so far, all full of loud yelling, non-stop sprinting, and a whole lot of spirit. Our own class was assigned previous World Cup Finalist team France. We have only played one game, and like our friends over in South Africa, it was a draw.
We still have a long way to go if we want the shiny, shiny, shiny trophy. (Did we mention that the trophy is really shiny?)

Robert- Great Class Rep, Great Friend26-07-10This blog is dedicated to one of our previous classmates. He was popular, funny, kind, a great leader, a talented musician, and a great friend. If you haven't guessed who it is yet, either you haven't read the title or you didn't know Robert very well. Yes, that's right people. Robert is gone. Most of you wouldn't understand the scale of this event, unless you were his friend. And he had a lot of friends.
He was also always a good guy to have around. He has a good (but slightly weird) sense of humor, including jokes like 'Multi-coloured sheep!' which shouldn't really be funny but they were. In a nutshell, he was just completely and utterly awesome. There is only one more message- WE WILL MISS YOU ROBERT!!!!!!!!

Language Fest Movies- CRACK UP!!9-08-10
Last week, our school celebrated Language Week, with our own little festival. Our very own Paps organised some absolutely HILARIOUS movies for us all to enjoy. Daniel's favourite movie was called 'Careful with that axe, Eugene'. It was about a boy who obviously hadn't had training with wood chopping.
The best part about this movie was the 'cringe factor'. You didn't want to look, but you couldn't resist. You would know what I mean if you saw it.
My favourite movie was called 'Tama Tu'. It was a movie about the antics of the Maori Battalion during WWII. You wouldn't believe what they got up to! I highly recommend this movie, as it was directed by Taika Waititi. If you don't know who that is, thats the director of Boy. I mean, who doesn't like Boy...

X Country26-08-10
Take 600 kids, combine it with unpredictable weather and dodgy tracks, and mix that in with some pretty intense nerves, and you've got the 2010 KIS Cross Country! This huge event took place on a cold, wet, windy, wild and altogether rather shifty day.
The Year 7 girls took off first, setting a high pace and standard. This was won by Ella in Room 16. After this the Year 7 boys were off, and this was won by Duncan in Room 6.
The Year 8 girls was won by Katrina in Room 6, so obviously Room 6 has a fair few quickies. However, Room 8's own Ella-Rose came 4th, which is a huge achievement!
The Year 8 boys was won by Shane in Room 18, so obviously Matai and Rimu are the fastest syndicates. But Matai didn't miss out completely. Josh C in Room 8 came 2nd, Caleb in Room 9 came 3rd, and Jared in Room 6 came 7th.
In the Year 7 boys, Daniel came 46th out of approximately 120, ('46th rules!' was his comment) and in the Year 8 boys, Austyn came 59th out of approximately 138 (My comment is 'Stink!') so not bad results for us Webslingers!

Samoa Trip (Austyn)/ Intensives (Daniel)01-11-10This week was one of the most epic weeks of the year. This week, Daniel had his awesome intensives, and Austyn flew out of the country for a week. We'll start with Daniel's intensives (Daniel is writing this bit).
What can I tell you about intensives. I could tell you about the time we get to spend off school, or I could say that they were awesome. But instead I'll tell you what I did.
The first day I had sports till you drop, an epic day packed full of sports teamwork and good times.
The second day I had Kensington Sports Experience. To start with we Walked the whole way to Kensington Park, then we spent the morning playing table tennis, after that we spent the afternoon doing squash an then we did 40 minutes of RPM. Wow that makes me tired just writing about it.
The third day I drove down to Piano Hill and spent the day riding horses and playing games on horses. It was fun, especially when we went over the jumps. I went so fast that I nearly fell off!
Now I'll pass the keyboard to Austyn who will tell you about his Samoa Trip.
This week, I had the experience of a lifetime. I went to Samoa. I won't write in extensive detail, otherwise you'll be here for a few hours reading it. So I'll skate over the stuff we did. We got up at 1:00 am on Saturday morning and travelled in the bus to Auckland Airport. We then spent 3 hours in check in, customs, security, and just waiting for our plane. When we finally got in the plane, we had to fly for 4 hours. When we got out of the plane, it was SO HOT!!!! I felt like I'd walked into a sauna. But anyway, we went to our hotel in Apia and didn't do much else.
On the second day, we went to Robert Louis Stevenson's house, and saw what is was like living in an 1800's home. We then visited the Piolu Cave Pools. I nearly drowned in those...
On the third day, we traversed the length of Upolu to go to Lalomanu beach. The main purpose of our visit was to see the Tsunami damage. But we ended up snorkeling over the coral, seeing all the tropical fish.
We then had to drive back to our hotel to swim in our pool. We swam a lot that day.
On the fourth day, we travelled to the ferry to go to the other island (Savai'i). The ferry was the worst thing of the trip so far. It was boring and long and uncomfortable. But we got to Savai'i, and to Tanu Beach. Tanu Beach was the perfect image of Samoa. Palm trees, white sand, clear waters, and so on. We spent a few days at Tanu beach, doing stuff, so I'll skip straight to day 7.
On day 7, we went back to Upolu, and stayed in a flash hotel. For the next 2 days, we just stayed in Apia, did some shopping, and arrived home on Sunday morning. What a week!!!!!

Sprint Finals15-11-10
On Friday the 12th of November the speedy students of KIS took to the track to show off their insane speeds. It all started with the Year 7 Girls 100m sprints which was won by Emma Moscrip in Room 7. Go Matai! We also had good results in the rest of our races, with so many 1st 2nd and 3rd's that I can't remember them all!
We were equally as successful in the 200 metres, with outstanding athletes such as Caleb, Morgan, Emma, Ella, Levi and others doing us proud. Then came the races that split our school like no other races have ever done- relays.
First were the class relays. We pretty much cleaned up in those taking A first, a second, and two thirds. Then came the funny bit- kids vs teachers. Naturally the teachers cleaned up, with an array of talented runners such as Mr Kini, Mr Ridling, Mr Palmer, and Mr Witten. The students tried their best, but the teachers proved far too good.
Then, the final relay, the relay to decide all relays- the inter-syndicate relay. We knew from the get go that it was going to be close- but a well used strategy put Emma in to cross the line by quite a long way. All in all, a great display of running from Matai!

Talent Quest29/11/10
Thursday 25th of November. Also a night many looked forward to. That's right- the night of the 2010 KIS TALENT SHOW. Daniel will be writing from an audience member's perspective, and I (Austyn) will be talking from a contestant's perspective. Take it away Daniel.
When you arrived at the talent show the first thing you noticed was the stalls. They were everywhere, left, right and centre. Stalls over here and stalls over there. After buying food from several stalls we headed into the hall and grabbed some seats.
We didn't have to wait very long before the first performers came out.
We watched an incredible first performance (our very own Emma & Rhianna) came out and opened the show with a BANG. Many other room 8-ians (including Johanna) were on in the star-studded KIS lineup, but to close the first round out came the one and only Awesome +1, with an astounding 3 Room 8-ians! (Arlen busting out the lead guitar, Josh doing his thing on rhythm guitar, and Austyn rocking the mike). It was very intense, but in the end Daniel from Room 6 won with an incredible solo drum performance. Hard luck Awesome +1!
Now, Austyn is going to talk about it from a performers' perspective. Take it away Austyn.
There's not much I can say. There's just the nerves, the breathtaking excitement, the music...
I was waiting in the language room, waiting for our turn. We went up, performed, and came off. The whole thing was incredibly exhilarating, and when we came off and we knew we'd nailed it, we were ecstatic. We got into the top 5, and came incredibly close to that 100 dollar prize. But like Daniel said earlier, we were pipped at the post by Daniel on the drums. Oh well, better luck next time!
We'd like to say goodbye to all our readers, because this is the last blog of the year, and Austyn's last KIS blog ever.
