As 2008 is an Olympic year instead of the KIS Cross Country Championship, we had the KIS Olympic Marathon.
As part of the 2nd KIS Mini-Olympiad, the marathon was the first event for everyone. As we’d had some awful weather lately, we all hoped for some sun. Thank goodness we had a fine warm day. First to take on the course were the Year-8 Girls, followed by the Year-7 Girls. The Year-8 Boys were next and finally we had the Year-7 Boys. Along with the prestigious “Champions Stripe”, places for the Kamo Intermediate WPSSA Cross Country Championship team were up for grabs (with 10 from each section chosen to represent Kamo Intermediate).
In both the Year-8 Girls and Boys we had repeat winners with (2007 Year-7 Champions) Tayla from Nikau and Ethan from Tawa triumphant. Congratulations to our new Year-7 Champions, Bridget of Rimu and Ethan of Nikau. Thanks to the Olympic Organising Committee (our lovely teachers) and especially to Mr Witten.
WELL DONE TO EVERYONE WHO TOOK PART AND CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR CHAMPIONS!!!

WPSSA CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Top 10 Year-7 & 8 boy and girl Marathoners (Cross Country runners) were chosen to represent Kamo Intermediate at the WPSSA Cross Country Championships. WE were more successful this year then in past years as we had 5 of the top 6 finishers in the Year–7 girls race, with Bridget winning and Tayla from Nikau winning the Year-8 Girls race. The top 15 competitors will compete in the Northland Cross Country Champs on 17th October, so this year we will have 25 students competing in these championships. Well done everyone Great Results!!!

NORTHLAND CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

To get to the “Northland Cross Country Championships” there were 3 stages to get through.
Stage 1: Finish in the Top 10 (for each year and gender group) at the Kamo Intermediate Marathon. This allowed them to represent K.I.S at the WPSSA Cross Country Championships. (40 Students went forward)
Stage 2: Finish in the Top 15 at the WPSSA Cross Country Champs. This year we had 25 representatives from Kamo Intermediate in the Northland Championship.
Stage 3: Compete in the Northland Cross Country Champs.
On Friday the 17th, we had 19 runners competing (6 students were away), and this year our students did us all proud with them all finishing inside the Top 20 (17th was our highest placing). The really awesome fact is we have 3 Northland Champions:
Bridget J-Room 15 (Year-7 Girls) Tayla G-Nikau A (Year-8 Girls) and Ethan C-Room 10 (Year-8 Boys).
