LUNCHTIME SPORTS - SOCCER

9th June 08

Room 8 v Room 3
Hedley V Manuel

The whistle blew. Our class immediately took control of the ball. Drew took the ball, ducking and weaving through the players. He passed off to Shae, who passed off to Dylan. BOOT!!! He kicked it to the goal, but the goalie stopped it. It rebounded back off his knees. KICK!!!! Straight through the goal!! “Howzat!!!!!” He yelled so loudly our goalie could hear it at the other end of the pitch. So far it was 1–0 to us. Looking good. Back to halfway we went. Again, the whistle blew, and Room 3 had the ball. One of their guys dribbled it up the sideline, he ran into the middle, kicked it, and he missed. The goalie went and collected it, and brang it back for a kick. He booted it up the sideline, right to Dylan. He ran with the ball all the way up the field, he smacked it to the inside, and Jordan dealt the final blow. Straight through the goal again! Room 8 wins!!! 2–0!! Good game Room 3.

CLASS OF ESPANOL

23/06/08

Extensive Spanish

Well, with nothing new today, and no sports due to the rainy conditions, we’ll be talking about the various things our entire class has been doing in our Extensive Spanish class.

Our whole class is doing it, and it is nothing short of awesome. While we are all over there in the school languages room, surrounded by everything Spanish (Posters, maps, numbers, colours etc). So far we have done about 13 lessons, and in that time we have learnt how to say all 27 letters in the Spanish alphabet, how to count up to 30. We have also learnt how to say, use and recognise some cognates (words) and much more stuff. It has been really fun, and everyone is having a blast.

Keep the fabulous teaching up Senora Parry!!!! Gracias!!!

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL

Inderpendance Day 4th July 2008

It was the last day of school…….. And EVERYONE was excited. Emotions were running high, and energy levels were running low. We were all ready for a day of movies, games, and laying about. There were rows of seats laid in the front of the class, with the giant activeboard overshadowing them all. Seats at the front, tables at the back. Seats holding people, tables holding bowls, packets and plates of food. !!YUM, FOOD!!

Fudge brownies, mini pizzas, egg sandwiches, cheerios, bananas, biscuits, carrotcake, and so much more! We all sat down and listened to Tristans speech, which was very….umm…colourful… After his speech finished we stretched and then watched some real entertainment, Independence Day!!

The OLYMPICS-U.S.A

19/08/08

On the 08/08/08 the Olympics kicked off, our class drew out America to be our country to follow. America started out fairly well with the great swimmer Michael Phelps who has now won eight gold medals; overall America has won around 48 medals. In all of his races Michael Phelps has set new world records. Sadly New Zealand hasn’t won as many medals. And we hope you have heard that the Olympics has been renamed the Michaelympics.

Also today our class table tennis team are gearing up for tomorrows big showdown. Although I (Jordan) have broken my little finger on my right hand I will still be playing, but with my left hand DUN DUN DUNNNN!!!!!!

The students in our class are still learning and speaking various languages. Right here now I am pleased to say a French speaking student joins me named……….. JOHN. He not only speaks French but he speaks Spanish and English!!! WOW, come on John, say something in French: Bonjour! Jemmopelle Jean, comme ca va, ca va bien merci becoup, salut!!!! SAMOA

Monday 3 November 2008

SWIMMING WITH THE TURTLES.

TUESDAY 28TH OCTOBER 2008

Swimming with the Turtles in Savai’i, Samoa. I was so excited to finally be doing it.

In the bus (a wooden bus!!) rolling closer and closer to those amazing turtles. We rolled around a corner, and I saw a large sign emblazoned with the words “Swimming With The Turtles”. I was buzzing with excitement. The bus seemed like it was going at walking speed. I was so ready to do this! We rounded a corner, and the bus stopped.

We all hopped out and walked forward to the lake. There were about 2 turtles right at the edge of the lake, eating the food thrown at them! It looked so awesome!! I quickly put on my Snorkel, mask and flippers and ran into the water. I went underneath, and it was dirty and I couldn’t see a thing. I was a bit worried I wouldn’t be able to see the turtles. I swam a bit forward, and instantly the water just went pure clear. It was like someone it a fire in my stomach.

I swam around the lake, and finally found a turtle. It was a stunning creature. It had an intricate pattern of lines across it’s shell, and it’s face looked ancient but young at the same time. I held my hand out, and my hand landed on it’s shell. I can’t describe how cool that was, touching a turtle.

I swam around looking for another one when I found a small baby one. It had a sort of tuff on it’s head, so I decided to name it Spike, even though it wasn’t my turtle. I followed it into the shallow area, where people were throwing Papaya for it to eat (a small, yellow fruit). When people ran out of food, I was about to swim away when it decided to start nibbling at my flipper!! I almost screamed with joy. I sat there for about 5 minutes, t hen I decided to swim away, to search for another turtle.

I swam to the other side of the lake and hit a dead end. I turned around and saw the baby turtle staring at me. It was following me!!! That was so awesome. After about 10 minutes I finally hopped out. But swimming with the turtles was my favourite part of the whole trip. Next, time to go shopping!

ANIMAL SURVIVAL

Monday 3rd November 2008

30/10/08

Animal Survival

Animal Survival the ultimate test of strength intelligence and willpower. Trust me it would help to have all these things if you want to survive for 3 hours in a gigantic pine forest, whilst being chased by crazy teachers and gangs of wild dogs.

If you don’t know about animal survival then heres a brief explanation. There are three groups’ herbivores carnivores and natural disasters. There is also the dreaded MAN.

In this game the less lives you have the higher up in the food chain you are.
Some of the animals you can be are wild dogs, rabbits, ducks, deer and stuff like that.
So if you are a wild dog you chase a rabbit around and when you finally catch it you take one life off them.

If you are a herbivore your main goal is to find 7 food and water stations in the forest.

So there we are sitting in a little clearing listening to the instructions and getting our cards with the animal we are going to be.

Unfortunately I was a rabbit, one of the lowest animals in the game!!
The herbivores got to go first, as I ran through the bush I was so excited when I saw the first station. I ran towards it and wrote the number down on my card and ran on.
Eventually I found all 7 stations then all I had to do was survive.

While I was in the forest I actually got lost!!
Come on, me getting lost!!!

I also found a bouncy ball, punching bag and a shampoo bottle.

Then all we had was the long walk back to the cars.

Languages Lunch

17th November 2008

Thursday 13th November 2008.

“Oh my gosh” It was one of the biggest lunches I had ever seen in my whole life. And unfortunately for you other people that don’t learn Spanish or French, you didn’t get to eat it!!!

The first part of the lunch was the appetizer, which included Nachos, Olives, Chorizo Sausages and a drink of Sangria (which is very nice!!!).

After a hasty gulping of drinks and eating of food we were allowed to go up and get a piece of a baguette (a long bread stick) and fill it up with salads, tuna, ham, chicken, cheese and mayonnaise.

For dessert we had dark Ecuadorian Chocolate, Chocolate Éclairs and puff pastry with a topping of cream and a strawberry (yum!).

After everybody had finished their food and downed their drink we were allowed to leave. Most of us didn’t want to, but we all emptied the remainders into the bins and cleared out, one by one.
