END OF TERM ONE
– 5th April 2007 –
It seems like the Year has just started and it’s already the end of Term 1.
All the classes have gone on camp, with the last of the Rooms (3, 4, 8 and 14) having fun this week in various places. Our Hockey and Netball trials have just finished and our Extension lists are now finalised for 2007 and they’re starting in the 1st week of next Term.
Term 2 looks just as hectic and something new this year at K.I.S is we are entering a group into the “Supré Stage Challenge 2007”. The local final will be on the 20th June (Term 2) so there could be a lot of children dancing around at their various houses . . . practicing. We Can’t Wait!!!
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
TERM TWO - 2007
– 23rd April to 29th June –
We also have the Winter Sports Tournament and for the first time at K.I.S we have entered a team into the “Stage Challenge”. Choreographer Supreme, Miss Delaney and Artist in Residence Hayley will be taking this group. There will be a lot of hard work, sweat, tears and blisters by the time of the Regional competition on the 20th June 2007.
Next Monday 30th April 2007 we have a Teachers Only Day. Our staff will all be attending a seminar and workshops at Forum North regarding Enhancing Children's education.
Also during our term break Miss J Smith (Room 10) was married and is now Mrs J Gunson, well done to the happy couple (we have heard it was a lovely ceremony).
In Art, the more things change, the more they stay the same. In the last six months we have had to Major Art Events!!!
The first major change took place at the end of Last Year. Mrs Phyn’s Art Room was given a “face-lift”. With more space, new storage facilities, shelving and equipment, it is still the centre of the KIS Art World (just new and improved).
This year in Term 2 the second major event occurred in the KIS Art World. The very “arty” Mrs Nicholson will be Team-Teaching with Mrs Phyn. The talented Mrs Nicholson was teaching Textile & Design last year while Ms de Bruin was on study leave, now she will be in the Art Room on Wednesday’s, Thursday’s and every second Friday teaching her “Art-Rageous” Extension Group.
Mrs Phyn still teaches on Mondays and Tuesdays, but will have her “Impact Art” Group every other Friday.
WELCOME to the K.I.S Whanau Mrs Nicholson!!
Well that’s the first news update for the term, so
Welcome Back to Kamo Intermediate!!!
SUPRÉ STAGE CHALLENGE
– Thursday 21st June 2007 –
(CHECK OUT OUR "KIS AT THE STAGE CHALLENGE PAGE")
This year for the first time in Kamo Intermediate history, we entered a team into the Supré Stage Challenge. Our performance was named “From Hawaiki to Hawaiki”
To help guide our group were our Choreographer Supremo, Miss. Delaney and Artist in Residence, Hayley Clark. We had 42 students in the K.I.S team and of course all the parent helpers as well.
We took the stage on the second night of performances. Kamo High School won Night 2 with Dargaville High coming second, we walked away with 5 Excellence Awards for Best Lighting, Best Costumes, Best Choreography, Best Music and Best Set (even though it was a bit too big).
Although a lot of people said K.I.S did so well for “a young intermediate team” we think NO! We did well for any team. . .PERIOD!!!
Congratulations to all of the performers, the stage crew, the lighting guys, the parent helpers, Mrs. Williams and of course Miss. Delaney and Hayley. You all did awesome and made us very proud!!!
LAST DAY OF TERM 2
– 29th June 2007 –
The second term at Kamo Intermediate was a very busy one for us. Our entire school took part in the “Winter Sports Tournament” along with 14 other intermediate aged schools at Kensington Park Sportsground. The World Famous “K.I.S Extension Programme” started for 2007 with 20 “X-Groups” spread around the school.
We had our first ever entry into the “Supré Stage Challenge 2007” Hawaiki to Hawaiki (coming in an unofficial 3rd) where we competed against 3 High Schools and a Drama School.
The “K.I.S Winter Sports Teams” also competed in their respected sports of Netball and Hockey (numerous other students play for teams outside of the school environment).
Does it slow down next term . . . well in a word NO! The K.I.S Science Fair begins term 3 while in August the Bernina Fashion Awards takes place. The Roadshow happens in the final 2 weeks of Term 3, travelling around our feeder schools, and we continue with Extensions and our Winter Sports teams. So enjoy the break, and see you back at school on Monday 16th July.

The winner is the team that gets all 20 questions correct in the fastest time.

KAMO INTERMEDIATE STUDENT – TAKES ON THE WORLD
– 30th March 2007 –
Kamo Intermediate and Room 18 student, Kaitlyn H is at the World Indoor Archery Tournament in Germany.
Kaitlyn’s Mum, reports that Kaitlyn shoots a traditional recurve style bow and they are not easy to use. Shooting conditions are not easy and these small individuals have to remain focused for 2 - 3 hours as they shoot 60 arrows all under a timing regime.
Kaitlyn has approached the tournament very calmly and as a result, her average score is 30 odd points above the current world record. Currently Kaitlyn is in Second place (Daisy from England is leading) which is something to be proud of.
She has 3 more tournament days to go and then a few days to explore Germany or Austria before returning home via LA. As soon as we find out, we will get a final update on how Kaitlyn got on.
(Many Thanks to Kaitlyn’s Mum and Mrs Davies for sending us this report!)

K.I.S NETBALL
– Saturday 25th August 2007 –
(CHECK OUT THE KIS NETBALL PAGE UNDER OUR SPORTSCENTRE MENU)
Saturday 25th, was finals day for all Netball Competitions at the Northland Netball Centre. All our K.I.S Netball teams had their last games, but our KIS-1 Team were playing the Section One Championship Final against WIS-1.
Although the WIS team had been the team to beat throughout the year, finals are something else. A very good, but very tense (mostly for the parents) game developed with the WIS team taking an early lead in the first quarter, and then our girls coming back to almost be level at halftime. By the end of the third quarter WIS were still ahead by a solitary goal and at fulltime the players and parents were still unsure.
In the end the Champions in the Section One Competition for 2007 were, by 23-24 “KIS-1” Congratulations to the players and especially their coach Karen Compton. YEAH!!!!!

KIS HOCKEY PRIZEGIVING
– Wednesday 17th October 2007 –
At the end of the Hockey year, it is time to give out awards to all those who took part in the Kamo Intermediate Hockey Programme. Although most students have already been taught how to play, a lot of former pupils end go on to National team honours (this year there were 7 former students selected for the Black Sticks Squad to meet Korea later on this season: Charlotte Harrison, Laura Douglas, Alana Millington, Anna Thorpe, Jasmine McQuinn, Kelesy Dunn and Stacy Michelsen). So maybe some of these players could join this group in the years to come.
