A 2-pronged tusk mark illuminates the cragged cave wall in which Craig Senter currently resides, deep in the Warawara Ranges. Lonely, cold, injured and shivering in the farthest reaches of a hollowed-out boar den, lay the twisted form of Craig; this dark 21-year old Maori man, clinging to life. Weighing in at 98kg, Craig soon found that pitting your wits against one of the fiercest heavy weights of the Warawara Ranges, the wild boar with a reputation to match its bloodlust, is a mistake he would not make twice… if he could survive. Lying bloody on the cave floor, his lifeblood running steadily, Craig Senter, for the first time, was alone with his thoughts. And seeing his fate, he reviewed all of the events that landed him here, on death’s doorstep.

Amidst the wild brawl, raging between heaving winds and steadfast trees, a sickening whir glides along the keen, razor edges of the tusks of a giant boar. He skitters through the thick greeny brown undergrowth of his home; the biggest and wiliest boar to grace the Warawara Ranges. The pit-bull of the pig world. With snout raised high in the snowy blizzard, he sniffs deeply and bolts from the frighteningly strong smell of human sweat. This beast of the animal kingdom now knew one thing. He needed shelter.

Trudging through the snow-covered undergrowth, in hot pursuit of what would definitely be one of his most prized kills, he keenly sighted the indentation of frighteningly large footmarks, and followed its crooked tracks, into a small windswept tunnel with barely enough room to move. A cold wind carried back one of the most penetrating stenches he’d ever encountered. The stench of his prize. A shock went down his spine, when a horrific snort resounded in his ears. It. Was. Here. Bailed and frightened. Checking the barrel of his bolt-action rifle, Craig prepared for the terrible fight, that was surely inevitable. The razorback trotted into sight menacingly. As he raised his rifle, the razor charged. Craig heaved to the right, narrowly missed by its ivory knives. Shoulder pressed hard on the muddy floor, Craig let fire a shot, unluckily missing the hard flank of the razorback. Mercilessly, its powerful legs surged forward. Craig wouldn’t be so lucky this time. Instinctively he hugged his knees and they took a hefty amount of the blow. And in the eerie silence, Craig could hear his own Achilles rupture. Sliding the bolt back, with hot tears in his eyes, Craig reloaded and raised his rifle. The boar had just turned to finish the job. Craig’s eyes were rock steady and he lined up the boar perfectly. BANG!!! The bullet cut easily through the thick brain of the razorback.

And those were the events that brought him here.
In foetal position, crying and with the loaded rifle pressed against his throat, to prevent a slow death, Craig eased the metal trigger back.
