WINTER SPORTS Tournament 2006
Kensington Sports Grounds
Tuesday 23rd May 2006

With over 3000 students, hundreds of teachers, parents and countless other volunteers, this years WINTER SPORTS Tournament was as usual . . . HUGE.

Although Sport was the main priority of the day, the biggest outcome had to be FUN. Here are some of our photos from the day.

Winter Sports Day
By Selina K (KIDZBIZ Journalist)

My eyes widened as the old school bus came to a halt. It was the Interschool Winter Sports Day, and already Kensington Park was filled with people.

We unloaded, pushing and shoving, then started to make our way down to the netball courts. It was a beautiful day, and everyone was excited. Along the park there were goals and different equipment set up for each sport. Team managers and coaches were carrying sacks full of balls. Other buses were pulling up in the car parks, each packed with smiling and happy students.

We finally entered through the gate to the netball courts. We looked at our schedule. Our first game didn’t start for another 45 minutes, so we headed over to the spare courts for a practise. Over on the grass fields, a sea of colour had formed, and teams were preparing for their first games.

A hooter went off. That was the end of a game. Suddenly we were in chaos. The time had gone fast and we were supposed to be on the courts playing. We sprinted quickly back to our bags, grabbed a drink, and hurried onto the court. It was a mean game, and we weren’t fully prepared, but after 10 minutes of passing, pushing, and obstruction the game finally ended. The outcome wasn’t what we had hoped for, but we had fun anyway. The heat during most of the games was immense, and before long everyone was red-faced and dripping with sweat. In between games, you had to wrap up warm because the wind seemed to overtake the sun.

At the end of the day, everyone was still smiling, but you could see the tiredness on their faces. Another long day- and we’ve got school tomorrow!
