Room 2’s Camp
Room 2 had an awesome camp. Aroha Island was our destination. We did heaps of fun things like, kayaking, cooking on Hobo stoves, fishing, eating, games, sailing, swimming, spotlight, a Kiwi night walk, treasure hunting, sailing on the R Tucker Thompson and plenty more adventurous things.

On Tuesday during the sixth week of Term 1 most of Room 2 arrived at school with all of our luggage. Heaving pillows, sleeping bags, and bags full of sleeping equipment, clothes and cutlery/crockery for our wicked trip to Aroha Island.
After packing everything into the parent helper’s cars and trailers at approximately 9:00 we finally left, all hyped up and excited.

When we reached our destination at approximately 10:00am, we got our tents pitched and had a little bite to eat. Then we met Greg, the Aroha Island caretaker/owner and we went over the rules and boundaries we had to OBEY!

About sometime after 7 oclock at night we started our cool kiwi night walk. Our guide, Greg, took us for a night tour around the island showing us some places where the kiwis could be hiding or foraging for food. After only sighting 2 kiwis we went back to our camp for a good nights sleep.

Our next destination for that day was sailing at a near by lake to learn how to sail or to improve our sailing skills. We spent the day on the lake, stopping on a small island for a lunch of buns and apples. Once we were back on the lake, nobody really wanted to go back!! Eventually Mrs Roberts persuaded Room 2 to go back and head for home.
Spotlight followed sailing after a quick dinner. We dodged and collided and dressed up and won. What a great time we had!!

During the lunch of Wednesday we were cooking on the all anticipated HOBO STOVES. We were making delicious sausages, egg in the hole and yummy pancakes. We spent the late afternoon on an antique sailboat complete with masts and a cannon, called the R Tucker Thompson. After the boat ride we went out for fish and chips and we got to play on a big playground and the beach. When we reached camp we had a quick supper and went to bed!!

On the last day, during the morning, some people went out on the kayaks. A few others went out fishing. This filled in our morning quite a bit. When everyone had had a turn at doing everything they wanted to do we started packing, finished packing, thanked Greg for having us and headed off home, thinking of the exciting memories we would keep for a while.
