Joel interviewed two leaving students in their class, David and Kadin.

Here we go!

Q: What school are you going to?
A: Kadin: Boys.
David: Kamo… yeah.

Q: What is the most exciting thing you’re looking forward to?
A: K: Meeting all the new people, really. Yeah.
D: All the new privileges.
K: Yeah.

Q: What are you going to miss most?
A: K: Friends and, uh, specialist teachers.. they’re cool.
D: Same here.

Q: Five things you want to achieve at High School?
A: D: Friends. Yeah.. And be smart.. What’s the word? You know, get a good education.
K: Same... Yeah, friends and educations.

Q: Three things you wish you had achieved at intermediate?
A: D: Uuuuum… I dunno.
K: I Missed out on first term.. so that was dumb.
D: I wish that I put my name forward for more things.. you know?
K: Also sports.
D: *Nods*

Q: Favourite subject? And why?
A: K: Specialists and uh… P.E.
D: Yeah.. I think so too. You know, you learn new things and that.
K: Yeah, P.E is fun.

Q: What would you change if you could?
A: D: Another year at inter’, less at high.
K: Yeah, more time to learn basic stuff.

Q: What advice would you give the new Yr 7’s?
A: D: Try things and give everything a go. No matter how good you think you are, you might be good, you never know?
K: Stay out of trouble. Oh, and try the calippo’s at the canteen, they’re good. *laughs*
D: Yeah, *laughs*

Q: Do you think High School will be good?
A: K: You know, it might actually get a bit boring later on.. My brothers have told me. You know, schoolwork.
D:I reckon it’ll probably have a lot to offer.

Q: Ok, last question. What teacher will you miss most.
A: D: Mrs Davies, and Mr Hughes too.
K: Yeah, Mrs Davies and Mr Kini too.

Here we stop!

Camp.

The softly splashing water trickled off my charcoal black paddle that glistened in the morning sun, forcing the kayak to skim forwards over the gentle, sly waves. A pack of multi-coloured kayaks cautiously moved together as a fellow classmate and I streaked towards a lone island.
Rewind, ok, it all started when we arrived at the dreamy seaside lodge that was to be our home for the next week. Everyone sprinted wildly towards his or her dorms. Peering cautiously round a bed, I saw it. The only unoccupied top bunk. I grabbed my chance, and dashed towards it. I sped up the ladder and lay spread-eagled on the mattress, staking my claim. Sometime later the pleasant feeling of victory started to wear off and boredom threatened to seize me with its cold, clammy, bony fingers. In a violent yet silent struggle, I managed to subdue it. I climbed down from my lair to go and join the pack.
Later that day, we were called in to determine what we were going to do for the week’s activities. In groups we set off, our group’s first activity was the wondrous kayaking. After donning our life jackets and straddling our kayaks, we set off paddling down the river, racing each other towards the pleasantly cool lagoon down at the sandy beach. Jumping from our kayaks, we dragged them slowly across the sand, grunting with effort, we reached the sea. Sunlight danced on the bottom of the water, casting airy patterns with pools of lightness. Sinking back into the cool plastic of the kayak, I quickly accelerated out to the breakers.
“Yipers!” A towering wave caught me off guard. Fuming, I muttered “ Ruddy water…”
